31 Days of Horror: My Manifesto for October
I review movies as I watch them, so my list of reviews at any given time can be fairly eclectic. Recently, I've been spending more time on classic and foreign films, but I'm just not feeling film noir or French flicks in this, the season of horror. As I did last year, my plan this October is to review only horror movies, with the ultimate goal of 31 horror reviews before the month is over. That also means that I will pretty much only watch horror movies for the next month --- hopefully, I won't get burned out after the first week or two. At the very least, I hope to enjoy enough horror movies to justify the time I spent on my admittedly cheesy and amateurish webpage header. If you have any suggestions for horror movies that I haven't reviewed yet (here's a list of what I've already covered), drop me a comment.

Have you seen either of the Hostel movies? Many find them disturbing, but I think they are a bunch 'o fun and often times hilarious. I would like to see your take on them (both are equally good). Also, Black Sheep is a hoot. The original Night of the Living Dead, From Dusk 'Til Dawn, May, and your favorite director's first feature length film, Eraserhead are just some suggestions. Then there is always the best of all time, The Shining.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, and Little Otik, if you dare.
ReplyDeleteThe original "The Wickerman" is one of my favorite horror movies. I think you'd also like "The Stuff." I don't think you've seen either of them before and they're both pretty different.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised you haven't done Freddy vs. Jason yet, but if you want to watch a movie you know you'll like you might want to review that or one of the Evil Dead movies.
Halloween 3: Season of the Witch on the other hand is one of the most notoriously bad and poorly conceived sequels in the history of film, so you might want to check it out.
Return of the Living Dead is also good.
@NB: I definitely have The Shining, From Dusk Til Dawn, and Night of the Living Dead on my plate already. I've been watching some fairly exploitative stuff recently, and I don't know how much Hostel I can take right now. Eraserhead is a possibility.
ReplyDelete@DoD: I watched The Wickerman and Return with you, and they are both very enjoyable. I was thinking of doing Wickerman this year. I've been pondering Halloween 3, but I just watched the last two pre-reboot movies, and that might be as much bad Halloween as I can handle for the moment. I'll do the Evil Dead trilogy someday, but they're movies I enjoy better with friends, so I might sit on them for a while. As for Freddy vs Jason...well, I'm saving that gem for the 31st. Gotta end on a high note.
I haven't seen The Wicker Man remake yet, but apparently it's about Nicholas Cage punching women.

Okay, I was avoiding the remake, but I will have to invest an evening and a case of beer into that. The bear punch had me in tears.
ReplyDeleteHere are some suggestions from Wired for next year. It seems like a solid list. Most of the flicks I never even heard of. http://www.wired.com/underwire/2011/10/25-unknown-horror-films/?pid=5273&viewall=true
